"The Sound of His Voice"
The Sound of His Voice
Bible Verse: The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD is over many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. Ps 29:3-4
My thought for today is the fact that God speaks to each and every one of us many times per day, but are we listening is the key question. We are moving so fast through our day that at times life can become a blur. Stopping to see and smell the flowers enjoy a sunrise or a sunset seem to be a luxury we are unwilling to enjoy.
God speaks to us through the raindrops on the roof, the sunbeam that warms our face, the smile of a friend or loved one that touches our lives. He is in the birds of the air and the silence of the moment, but in order to experience we need to empty ourselves of the things that have captivated our thoughts. In order words need to turn our heart to Him to listen to His voice.
There is no a problem with our hearing but rather with our ability to listen. We hear just find, but our attentions are somewhere else. This is a challenge my wife reminds me of all the time. I hear her voice but I have not engaged her in thought which requires me to refocus my attention and listen.
I know that when she reads this she will smile, as does God when we finally get it and turn our attention to Him. This is a purposeful act. We cannot truly engage with God with only our ears it must be our entire being.
God wants us to commit our attention to Him. He does not just want us involved in a conversation where the rest of life has our mind and heart. Take a moment and truly listen. God will speak when you let go of life to cling to the moment with Him.
I have a fan running in my office as I write this message. The blades whirl, but when I stop typing and set in the silence of the moment and turn my heart toward God I do not hear blades moving through the air, but rather I hear His soft gentle voice reminding me of His love.
Why would we not want to commune with our Creator? Can we be so busy that we have no time for God? Is living more important than life when life involves a relationship with God? We have a choice. He is speaking, but are we listening?
