Standing on the Promises of God
Bible Verse: Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the LORD. Ps 27:14
My thought for today is the strength of our conviction to wait patiently on the Lord to satisfy our needs. We live in an instant world, where we become very quickly exaggerated when things do not go our way. We no longer know how to relax and simply enjoy all that God has created for us.
God loves us and has given us the assurance that He will never leave, nor forsake us. He desires fellowship with Him and while we are in His presence He wants to hear our wants and desires. Our challenge though is to have the courage to wait on God’s response.
His response often does not come in the manner and timing of our request, but when He does bless us if seems that we get much more than we asked for. I have never been short-changed by God. His grace and mercies has overwhelmed me at times.
I like everyone else want what I want and I want it now. Waiting on God requires extra effort on our part. We need to surrender our wants and desires to God and when His desires become ours we flooded with His grace.
We need to first believe that God loves us and He does. Second that God wants to bless us and He does and finally God listens to our requests and through the patience indwelling of the Holy Spirit works to transform our wants into His desires for our lives.
We need to empty ourselves of our wants so that He can fill us with Himself. The tighter we hang on to what we want the less God has to mold and shape our hearts desire into His.
David knew the secret to success was to let go of what he wanted and to trust God for the outcome. He still made is wants know, but remained open to the blessings of God.
Where is your focus? Are you waiting on God or holding on to the things of life? Do you trust that God can deliver on His promise? Christ’s message is clear be of good courage I have overcome the world and have gone to prepare a place for you and soon I will return to take you home to live with Me forever.
