"A Desire To See Jesus Face to Face"
A Desire To See Jesus Face to Face
Bible Verse: One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, And to meditate in His temple. Ps 27:4
My thought for today is do the things that we chase after in life have present or eternal value. David was king of all Israel. He was victorious in battle had everything that he wanted on earth, but because he had an eternal focus his hearts desires was for the things of heaven rather than the things of earth.
As I read today’s scripture I ended up doing a self-examination to determine what had captured my hearts desire. I realized that my hearts desire ebbs and flows that is not singularly focused on the things of God or the things of earth. I am deeply moved in my time of prayer study and worship and clearly echo David’s request to see the face of God and dwell in His house forever.
As I leave my quiet time though, the world seems to be my focus, with activities to complete, tasks to accomplish, treasures to be earned. I have been richly blessed, as was David. Though I am not king I have a wonderful wife who I love deeply, children and grandchildren who are the apple of my eye, as well as a good job that challenges me in every way possible.
I guess our challenges is to not spend nearly as much time thinking and chasing the world and its treasures and spend more time hungering and thirsting for the things of heaven. When God and his temple is our hearts desire the things of earth are put into their proper perspective.
We need to ask God as David did to make our time with Him be our hearts desire. We can get so easily distracted that we must redouble of our efforts to acquire a heaven bound focus.
As you prepare for a new day take a good look at what are your hearts desire. Could it be that we have all of our priorities out of focus and God is call us to reconsider what is truly important in our lives.
What do you want out of life? Does that desire include seeing Jesus face to face, to dwell in house forever? We can change our priorities whenever we want. Let’s make the change and seek David’s view as our life’s focus.
