"Give Thanks"

Give Thanks

Bible Verse:
That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, and declare all Thy wonders. Ps 26:7

My thought for today is the thanksgiving that ought to be forever on our lips and in our heart is often missing from our lives. God’s joy is stolen and often replaced with a lie. We are told that there is much to be gained by advancing in our careers, that money, power and prestige are the keys to happiness, but once we get close to the world’s stated objective what we thought is solid is hollow and unfulfilling.

David had it right when he wrote that we are to proclaim with a loud voice thanksgiving for what God has done for us in our lives. There is so much to be grateful for if we would only focus on God. I am a person who types with only a few fingers of both hands. As I was typing this message I realized how much I am thankful that I can move each finger and both hands to type.

It is the simple things of life that often escape our notice because we are focused on a different prize. When are eyes are focused on God everything come into focus. The birds chirping in the morning singing their praises to God can be heard and thanks given. The morning dove and her cooing, the flowers and their smells or the sun as it rise over the horizon are all good reasons for us to thank God for giving us hearing, smell and sight.

Life is all about our ability to marvel at the wonders of God and to praise Him for the many, many blessings we receive. So much of what we have is taken for granted. Living without pain or living with pain are reasons to celebrate in their own realm.

We need to learn how to live with a thankful heart and a desire to declare the wonders of God that surround each of us each day. Let’s not waste another moment. Thank God for what He has done or is doing in your life. There is always something that we can find to be thankful for.

Have you thanked God today? Do you see His hand upon you in what you see, smell and hear? Has He blessed you greatly, but you have failed to recognize what He has done? Now is the time to thank Him. Now is the time to declare the wonders of His hand. He is worthy of our praise so let’s not disappoint Him and thank Him often throughout our day.
