Calling Upon the Name of Jesus
Bible Verse: Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. Look upon my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins. Ps 25:16-18
My thought for today is the amazing comfort that results from a person who hungers and thirsted for the grace of God. We all have trials and tribulations. We all have needs and wants that never seem to be satisfied. We all at times have cried out to the Lord and experienced dryness, loneliness a time where our afflictions had almost buried us.
This is David in today’s scripture passage is having one of those moments. Being on the run fearing for his life, hiding in the caves in the wilderness, eating meagerly in constant fear with a few valiant men who were loyal to him, David still cried out to God. He knew that he could not resolve these hardships, but by God’s grace he could find and oasis of peace in God’s presence.
David knew he secret of life to place his trust in God. There were times when he was blessed and times where he suffered and through it all David humbled himself before a Holy God.
We like David need to come to this same conclusion. We will suffer. We will be called to endure, but we still have an opportunity to pour out our needs before a Holy God and seek His forgiveness and peace. There is no reason to stop call upon the Lord. He hears our words, feels our pain and by His grace will see us through all difficult times.
As you look at the last few days. Can you honestly say that you called upon God and trusted Him for the outcomes of life? He is waiting to engage us and meet us at the point of our concerns, but before He will enter our lives we have to invite Him. He does not barge in, nor will He ever take charge. He wants you and I to humbly seek Him and find our peace in Him and not in the things of this world.
Are you relying on the power of God or on your own self-sufficiency? Do you call often on the name of Jesus throughout your day and share life’s trials and tribulations with Him? We can find comfort in the midst of the storms of life, but it will only occur in the presence filled grace of our time with God. Cease every moment. Call upon the name of Jesus and allow Him to heal your brokenness.
