Filled to Overflowing
Bible Verse: Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows. Ps 23:5
My thought for today is realizing the blessings of God even when we are in the pit of distress and pain. Circumstances can if we let them turn us cold and uncaring toward the things of God, because we find ourselves focused so much on self-survival and not on the things of God. God has not left us in the mire of despair. He is with us whenever we want to turn to Him.
David so God’s blessings even when Saul was work so hard to kill him. He witness God’s blessings in the midst of trying times because his heart was focused on the things of God and not on the circumstances that he faced. You and I have a choice to make in how we will face the storms of life. Will we call upon the name of God or get caught up in the self-pity?
We need to learn as David did to pray unceasingly, rejoice always and call on the name of the Lord to be our guide and strength throughout our day. We need to choose to be a people of God, a people who sees that their cups are overflowing with His mercies and love. We need to look for God in the darkest times as well as in the bright sunshine.
We need a real attitude adjustment where we center ourselves on God and His incredible blessings. It is so easy to get caught up in the things of life where we become so focused on self that we no longer see His amazing grace.
Take a moment to praise God. Thank Him for the breath of life. Thank Him for the sights and sounds, the touch of friend or the smile of a neighbor. We are blessed but often do not recognize it, because we have stopped looking for the things of God. God will overflow our cups perhaps not in the way in which we necessarily understand but nonetheless He blesses and calls us to join Him in the communion of the saints where we may praise Him for who He is and what He has already done.
Is your cup full or empty? Are you praising God looking for His amazing grace or concerned more for your current circumstances? God wants to bless you, but first you need to turn to Him and surrender your day into His care. He will fill your cup to overflowing when you begin to look for Him even in the midst of the disasters of life. He stands at the doorway and knocks, won’t you let Him in?
