"No Fear"

No Fear

Bible Verse:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me. Ps 23:4

My thought for today is the fear of being all-alone at times can be overwhelming. The fear of being in an unsafe place all-alone can be crippling, but the truth is that those who love God and place their trust in him are never alone. God walks with us at times holding our hand and yet at other times He carries us.

When I was in Israel a couple of years ago we stood at the edge of the top of a valley and looked down into the valley floor hundreds of feet below. The place was called “the Valley of the Shadow of Death,” which is located between Jericho and Jerusalem. This was most likely the place that David was writing about in this psalm.

It was quite a formidable place with lots of place for thieves and murders to hide ready for an ambush. This valley floor was the easy way to get from Jericho to Jerusalem. The other ways were through the country side was almost impassable. Though this was a scary place, a place where you fear for your life, it was a place where David found hope. God was with David wherever He went. The valley of the shadow of death was not going to stop David.

David walked by faith and not by sight through these treacherous valley passages with confidence, because he knew that God walked with Him. David knew that no matter what happened God would see him through. This does not meant that David was safe from being attack, but it does mean that regardless of the outcome of his journey a sovereign God would provide Him the grace to make it through.

We can learn a tremendous amount from this single verse. When we turn our lives over to God, He will walk with us. There will be difficult times, but this is when God and His grace will comfort us. We need not fear, because God is with us and He will comfort us as we learn to lean on the promises of God.

Are you fearful of something right now? Do you feel all alone in a world that seems to be closing in on you from all sides? Take a moment to call upon the name of the Lord. Invite Jesus to talk with you, to provide you His grace and peace. You like David can walk with the confidence of angels when you are walking with the Lord.
