Walking Hand In Hand

Bible Verse:
He leads me beside quiet waters. Ps 23:2

My thought for today is God’s ability at times to slow us down and allow us take note of the amazing things that are present in life. We rush here and there often wondering how we will fit everything into the time we have, but then like today in the quietness of the morning I hear the birds singing there praises to God and I pause to sing with them.

From time to time I feel like I am lead beside quiet waters to see what I have been missing as I rush through life. I tend to fill my days and nights with activities and often find it hard to relax and be still, just soaking up the kingdom of God and His amazing creation.

Last summer I rediscovered the quietness of fishing. I took my grandsons out and as we stood at the waters edge I realized how much I had missed the quiet, serene stillness of God’s creation. We fished and enjoyed the blue skies, the smells of country air and the thrill of being still and knowing that we were loved by God.

He led me beside still waters and there I found His peace. Since that time I have gone fishing several times, setting aside my busyness to reengage my Heavenly Father in enjoying all that He had created.

We need to take more walks, being still before our Heavenly Father. We need to stop and smell the flowers, enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. We need to watch the clouds pass by in awe of a Holy God who paints the out door pictures just for you and I to enjoy.

Walking beside still waters does not need to be a place where we go to, but rather an attitude that we choose to have. We need to purposefully set aside the activities that all too often captivate our attention to enjoy intimate fellowship with God. It could happen in a crowded elevator, a car filled highway or standing on the bank of a lake or river. God is calling you and I today to walk with Him beside still waters. What will your response be?

Will you be willing to let go of the busyness that often crowds your day? Can you be still in the midst of a crowd and enjoy God? Are you willing to take His hand and walk beside still waters? You can do it! Try it! You too may like what you see and experience once again the wonders of His presence.
