A Love Song to God
Bible Verse: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart; be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer. Ps 19:14
My thought for today is the prayer that many of us have sung a thousand times and yet has it become true in and through our lives. Our purpose in life may not be what many people believe it to be, which is to bring glory, honor and praise to a holy God who has loved us conditionally.
We were created for God’s good pleasure and not our own. We were created for fellowship with God and in the beginning Adam and Eve walked in the garden with God in the cool of the day. They had God’s undivided attention and life was good, but sin entered the world and separated us from God.
Though sin separates us from the love of God it did not change our purpose. It did not change our call to fellowship with God. What it did do is establish our need for a Savior. One who could reestablish our relationship with God and call us to focus on our true calling, which is not to make a living in order to retire in comfort.
We are called to make the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart truly accepted in the sight of a holy God. I wonder how different our speech would be if we were consciously considering that we were speaking to God rather than our spouse, children, or neighbor. I am sure our actions and the meditations of our heart would be radically transformed if we recognized God was in our midst and the One we were serving.
We should not sing these words unless we mean what they say. We need to be purposeful in our thoughts, words and deeds. We need to realize that God is always on the receiving end with a goal to see Him pleased. After all He is our rock and our redeemer.
We are incapable of saving ourselves. There is not amount of good, no amount of giving, or any degree of following liturgical precepts that can reconcile us to God. Jesus alone saves! He is worthy of our praise, so let’s sing boldly and this time mean what we sing to the glory of the Father.
Is your life a sweet offering to God? Has God been blessed by the words of your moth and the meditations of your heart? He is calling us today to remember our first love and to live according to that call all the days of our lives.
