"Being Fed By the Word of God"
Being Fed By the Word of God
Bible Verse: The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. Ps 19:7-8
My thought for today is our view of the Word of God must not be that it is perfect or we would read, heed and obey its teachings. The Bible is a love story from God filled with man’s unfaithfulness and God’s unconditional love, God’s unmerited favor poured out on sinful man. God’s desire for man is to know Him, to call Him and draw close to Him.
The bible is not a list of do’s and don’ts but rather a prescription on how to successful navigate the challenges of life. His Word helps us learn from the actions, thoughts and words of other to give us a roadmap that help us turn from evil and toward a Holy God.
The challenge is that we must be reading it daily, praising God for His grace and mercy and learning to apply His precepts as we draw closer to Him. If we seldom open this Book we will never taste and see the goodness of God. We will never see that His commands are good and just, that His message for us if for our good.
Our eyes are open, our ears made attentive and our mind and filled with the grace of God when we take the time to be a disciple of His Word. David knew that the law was good. He knew that it could train him up in the way in which he should live and as a result praised God for its content.
The Bible is unlike any other book that we will pick up. It is not a book that you just read, but rather a book that transforms lives. It does no good to you and I if this book sits on our shelves and is never opened and thoroughly enjoyed. The choice is ours to make. Will this Book remain a collector’s item or will it become the compass from which we find direction for our life? The answer is could be in your hands if you choose to make it so.
Are you a lover of God’s Word? Do you read, meditate and apply the lessons contained in this book so that you can strengthen your relationship with God? We have been challenged this morning to consider what we will do with this amazing Book. Don’t let it sit and collect dust. Open it daily and fall in love with its Author you will never regret this decision.
