"A Person After God’s Heart"

A Person After God’s Heart

Bible Verse:
“ I Love Thee, O LORD, my strength.” The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies. Ps 18:1-3

My thought for today is just how different the love story with God that you and I might write than the one David wrote in today’s scripture passage. I was touched by the simplicity and innocence of David’s psalm. Though a sinner like all of mankind, David was a man after God’s heart. David loved God deeply as can be seen in the words he chose to write.

So many thoughts bubble from these three verses for me that I can hardly contain myself. I almost can’t wait to write what God’s Spirit brings to the forefront of my mind. I can’t type fast enough to capture all that has engulfed me as David’s love story with God is revealed.

It begins with a key statement, “I love thee O Lord.” The word love is filled with so much power and meaning that a few words can’t encapsulate it. David confided in the Lord. He was unafraid to pour out his heart, speak the thoughts that had captivated his mind. David was willing to do anything for God because of God’s faithfulness. Even giants could not be a stumbling block that would shake the faith of man who was in love with God.

David knew that God was his source of strength. All things were possible as David turned his heart toward God. At the same time David was not fooled that God would answer all of his prayers, but rather the will of God would be done in His life and that was more than enough for a man who was in love with God.

David knew that he could turn to God and rely fully on God’s sovereignty. Though David was hounded, slept in caves on the run, he still was in love with God and desired to praise Him without ceasing. David looked to God as his Savior, no earthly person or event would rob him of the joy of loving God with all of his heart, mind and body.

What would your psalm be? Would it sound like that of David’s or would it be much different? Are you deeply in love with God? Is He the Rock in whom you find strength? We truly can experience all that David had if we will but trust in God and choose to love Him fully. The decision is up to us. Chose wisely!
