Having an Eternal Perspective
Bible Verse: Arise, O LORD, confront him, bring him low; Deliver my soul from the wicked with Thy sword, From men with Thy hand, O LORD, From men of the world, whose portion is in this life; And whose belly Thou dost fill with Thy treasure; They are satisfied with children, And leave their abundance to their babes. As for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Thy likeness when I awake. Ps 17:13-15
My thought for today is whether or not we are living for the moment or for eternity with our Risen Savior. The segment of David’s psalm today calls into question the motivation of people. He was being chased and the only thing his avengers wanted was to fill themselves on the spoils of war. They were not concerned about justice or even partially aligned with doing the will of God.
As I read this scripture passage a few times today I realized that this is key question for each of us. We may not be seeking to kill and destroy like David’s enemies, but we still have our sights focused on satisfying our selfish desires rather than serving our Risen Lord.
We need to carefully watch what our true motives are. We could be serving on a church committee and still not be focused on doing the work that leads to eternal life. We can easily lose focus on the things of heaven and begin to tear down rather than build up.
The question we must answer represented by the actions of our lives is God glorified or are we satisfied or justified. When we are truly serving God ahead of ourselves then we have an eternal perspective. When honoring God take precedence over satisfying self we have made the right decision.
Take a close look at the decisions you have made in the recent past. Be critical of their purpose and who was honored by them. God does not want some of our attention, but rather He wants all of it. This means He wants to be involved in every decision that we make.
Is God active in your life? Do you consulting often for the decisions of life? Is He being honored and glorified by the way in which you are living? We can make a difference. Lives can change, but this change must begin in you and I. when we take an eternal perspective God is pleased and pleasing god is what life is all about.
