"Walking with God"

Walking with God

Bible Verse:
Hear a just cause, O LORD, give heed to my cry; Give ear to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips. Let my judgment come forth from Thy presence; Let Thine eyes look with equity. Thou hast tried my heart; Thou hast visited me by night; Thou hast tested me and dost find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. As for the deeds of men, by the word of Thy lips I have kept from the paths of the violent. My steps have held fast to Thy paths. My feet have not slipped. I have called upon Thee, for Thou wilt answer me, O God; Incline Thine ear to me, hear my speech. Wondrously show Thy loving kindness, O Savior of those who take refuge at Thy right hand From those who rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Thy wings, Ps 17:1-8

My thought for today is the steps it would take to have a relationship with God that is represented in today’s scripture passage. David, King of Israel was described as a man after the heart of God. Though not perfect by anyone’s account, he had a love for God that was incredible.

As I meditated on today’s scripture passage I was challenged to examine my own relationship with God and what I might do to strengthen it. When you look closely at the text you find the key elements of a woman or man of God. Each one of these elements needs to be visited each day and if found to be wanting action taken.

The first step in David’s walk with God is confession and repentance. We can not come before God with unconfessed sin. God knows all that we have done and all that we will do and yet when we empty ourselves of the sin that separates us from Him, He has a venue to fill us with His love.

Step two is an listening, open heart. God speaks to us often, but when we are busy with the activities of life we do not hear Him. The sunset or sunrise will speak, a rain drop on our windshield can shout and a flower of gladness can leap for joy if we will not fill ourselves to overflowing with activities that deafen us to the call of God.

Step 3 is to place the Words of God in our heart and on our lips. If God were present when we speak harsh words would never come from our lips. If God were present we would not look to teardown, but rather build up. If God were in our heart there would be more smiles and less frowns.

The final step puts all of the others into action. While walking with God we would speak to Him often. We would tell Him of our hearts desire. We would ask Him to show us how to best serve Him. Walking with God would be a daily prayer because He would be always with us.

Are you willing to walk with God? The next step is your’s to take.
