Standing firm on The Promises of God
Bible Verse: I will bless the LORD who has counseled me; indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the LORD continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely. For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Sheol; Ps 16:7-10
My thought for today is the people or things that have influence over us today may not be all what we need them to be unless they are of the counsel of God. David took the Lords counsel seriously. God’s Word was a lamp unto His feet a light unto his path. He would rather have had the Lords words on His mind, in His heart and being uttered through his lips more than anything else. David was centered upon God, through he was a sinner committing adultery, and murder. David was also a poor father and yet he was a man who longed for a right relationship with God. His words found in this Book of Psalms rings loud and clear that God was His first love.
We to are singers in need of a Savior. Like David we have choices to make. We can choose to fill our heart and mind with God’s Word or the things of this earth. David found comfort in God though he did not always live at peace nor was his relationship always right with God, he knew that he could turn to God at any time and find comfort there.
As I was meditating on today’s passage I realized that when life is not going according to my plan and the world I know places obstacles in my path too big to comprehend I too know where I can find peace and joy. It is in time spent in prayer, study and worship of God.
Nothing else calm my fears more fully than quiet time with God. He knows when I have fallen short of His glory and sinned. It is then in humility and repentance I know I can go to Him and find His forgiveness.
Where do you find your greatest joy? To whom or where do you go to find peace? God is calling each of us to search our heart and mind. He wants us all to know that He waits to meet us where we are with open arms. Nothing that we have done can separate us from the love of God. Christ died to set us free so let us avail ourselves of His service, placing our trust in his care. Like David we will not ever be disappointed.
