Humility the First Step to Repentance
Bible Verse: O LORD my God, if I have done this, If there is injustice in my hands, If I have rewarded evil to my friend, Or have plundered him who without cause was my adversary, Let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it; And let him trample my life down to the ground, And lay my glory in the dust. Ps 7:3-5
My thought for today is the magnitude of our repentance is proportion to our relationship with God. If we are sorry we got caught or experience a twinge of guilt for what we have done then our remorse for these acts will be hallow and shallow. It is likely that we repeat these acts again. When we grieve over the sin that we have committed because we have saddened the countenance of God then we may begin to understand the seriousness of our transgressions.
David in today’s scripture takes remorse to a new level. He wants God to use any injustice as a training ground of repentance. He so loves God that to not know that he may have been unjust toward another is grounds to be reproved by God.
We seldom confess the sins we know about let alone pour out our heart on sins of omission, sins of poor attitude, sins that draw us away from God because of what we have or have not done for mankind who God loves.
We to have a choice of how we will deal with sin that is present in our lives. We can come before God in humility, surrendering everything into His hands, seeking His will for our lives or we can ignore God’s call of faithfulness in our lives. David chose a humble heart. He chose confessions and repentance for even the events that were known only to God. He wanted nothing standing in the way of His relationship with God.
David was human. David sinned and yet He had a heart that desired to serve and be obedient to God. We too have this same choice. We also have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We also can humbly come before a Holy God and seek His chastisement, His forgiveness and His love. Life is about making good choices so lets choose the heart of God as our guide and be come all that God intended us to be.
Is your heart right with God? Do you have unconfessed sin in your life? Are you willing to humble yourself before God and let Him cleanse you fully? Take a moment and allow the Holy Spirit to show you what grieves the heart of God. Once revealed surrender all into God’s care and receive His peace and love. David found relief in repentance so can you and I.
