Three Days and Counting
Bible Verse: “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.” Micah 5:2
My thought for today is the majesty and beneficence of God revealed by Micah as prophesizes about the coming of Jesus the Lord of mankind. I often wonder why things happen, but know full well that it is the plan of God. I picked Micah a small book to finish out the year of my study. Who would have known that three days before Christmas that I would be called to write of God’s promise captured by Micah several hundred years before Christ’s birth. Only God knew!
The more I read and study the Bible the more I am convinced that He still is in control, still cares deeply about His people and their choices of faith. We can believe and then act on that belief or we can ignore and eat drink and be marry because tomorrow we will die. The problem is many do not know the truth of God and believe that life is all about themselves rather than their relationship with God.
God calls us moment by moment to take note of Him. Today’s passage reading is no exception. We are called to consider the truth of Micah’s prediction and its impact on our lives. If it has not touched us deeply of the fact that Jesus would empty Himself leaving the presence of the Father to take on the form of man, become a bond servant of His creation and be obedient unto death on a cross for our sins.
These facts ought to shape our thinking as we prepare for the celebration of Christ’s birth. We need to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. We need to be humble before our God in thanksgiving of the gift of Himself in Jesus. We need to walk in Jesus light allowing all to see us draw near and look for reasons why there is a difference.
Today begins the rest of our lives. Let’s not waste another moment. Let’s together proclaim the birth of Christ and what it means to be His follower. The world is waiting and therefore we need to act.
Have you been changed by the coming of the Christ child? Will you choose to make a difference in your world? You have the light of Christ so use it.
