"Preparing to Meet God"
Preparing to Meet God
Bible Verse: Blow a trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, For the day of the LORD is coming; Surely it is near. Joel 2:1
My thought for today is the fact that with each breath we take we are closer to meeting Jesus either here on earth in His second coming or in heaven at the throne of His grace. The real question though is are we ready to meet our maker?
As I read this prophesy of Joel about the end times I was reminded that we are called to live each breath that we take with awe and reverence. We do not know when we will be called home so we will not have time to prepare. Our moment of preparation is now. We must decide how we will choose to order our lives after the example of Christ or live for ourselves satisfying the desires of our own heart.
The way we live reflects the decisions that we have made, but do not necessarily need to reflect the way in which we will live in the present and future. God is calling us through Joel to humble ourselves before a holy God, for our time with Him is drawing close.
I do not want to dwell on Joel’s prophecy concerning Christ’s second coming because it should not matter when this event occurs. You and I need to prepare as if our next breath is our last. We need to be right with the Lord, having confessed our sin, having loved God with all of our heart, mind, body and strength and our neighbor as ourselves.
We can not let anger, fear or frustration captivate our lives. We need to be able to live life with a clear conscience. We need to pray without ceasing for the things that God’s Spirit places upon our heart. When we are in right relationship with God we are serving Him with joy, praising Him with all of our might and ready to meet Him at any moment.
Are you ready to meet Jesus face to face? If not, what do you need to do to be ready? Just do it! Micah said it best when he wrote, “O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” We can choose to make this a life decision or not remembering that our next breath maybe our last.
